Aloha,
I want to thank each and every one of you for your hard work and support during this election cycle. I know we would like to have seen better results last night both nationally and locally, but it was clearly not due to a lack of effort from our volunteers and candidates.
We fielded distinguished and strong candidates who would represent the constituents of Hawai'i well at all levels, and we are proud of their efforts. Running in Hawaii can be particularly challenging as a Republican, but each of our candidates took the initiative to take on that challenge and I thank them for that. It was an honor and privilege to work beside each and every one of you. The cause of building a viable two-party system here in Hawai'i is not an overnight process and will require us to stay active and involved. I know with your continued involvement and support for the Party, we can succeed and elect more Republicans in the coming years.
Congratulations to Senator Sam Slom, Representatives Gene Ward, Cynthia Thielen, and Aaron Johanson for holding their seats. And congratulations to our newly elected leaders: Representatives Beth Fukumoto, Lauren Cheape, Richard Fale, and Bob McDermott, as well as new Council Members Kymberly Marcos Pine and Don Couch!
We have reason to be optimistic and hopeful about the future of our Party, especially with our newly elected Republicans who are young, driven, and have a passion for representing their district. I know our Republican elected officials will strive to address the issues that matter most to our community and Hawai'i.
Mahalo,
David S. Chang
Chairman
