EPA Administrator Is Sued Over Pepe'ekeo Power Plant

…Preserve Pepe'ekeo Health and Environment, an unincorporated association consisting mostly of people who have homes nearby, filed a lawsuit in federal district court in Honolulu on September 19. The complaint seeks an order requiring Environmental Protection Agency's administrator, Lisa P. Jackson to make a decision on a petition PPHE filed in August 2011 challenging the Hu Honua permit.
That petition alleges that the state Department of Health violated the federal Clean Air Act in granting a permit to operate to Hu Honua. Among other things, the group alleges that the permit does not comply with the requirements that it prevent significant deterioration of air quality, that it limit emissions of hazardous pollutants, and that it achieve employ maximum achievable control technology….

The Hamakua Sugar Company lands bought by the Broken Trustees of Kamehameha Schools and ‘guarded’ by Larry Mehau for $$$ were planted in Eucalyptus. Years later, the trees, not properly culled, have grown into 10,000 plus acres of pencil thin stands with zero lumber value. It is either burn them or ship them to Japan for paper mills. Today’s pollution is an expression of yesterday’s corruption.
