HIRONO SCORES ANOTHER ZERO WITH FALSE CLAIM
News Release from www.Lingle2012.com
HONOLULU - In response to false accusations from Mazie Hirono, the Linda Lingle Senate Committee released the following statement:
“Mazie Hirono scored another ZERO yesterday when she falsely attacked our campaign for the size of Governor Lingle’s picture in an ad exposing Hirono’s zero-achievement record during her nearly six years in Congress,” Lingle for Senate Campaign Chairman Bob Lee said today.
“Our television version of the ZERO spot does meet the 80% candidate image size as can be seen in the screenshot below. There is no similar law regarding Internet spots, which means their allegation is baseless and completely false,” Lee said. “Being a lawyer, you would think Hirono would check the law before making such a false claim,” Lee added.
“Frankly, this shows the people of Hawaii that they should question all statements coming from Hirono and her campaign in the next 83 days,” Lee said.
“It’s very telling that Hirono wants to focus on the screen size of the disclaimer on an unpaid Internet version of the ad, instead of the substance of the ad. That’s because they know the substance is 100% true.
“Mazie Hirono has accomplished little in Washington, but has contributed to the poisonous partisan environment that has brought our country to the brink of fiscal collapse.
“Not a single Hirono-sponsored bill has become law since she was elected. With a record like that, no wonder she wants to talk about the percentage of the screen taken up by a disclaimer.
“It’s an old Washington political trick. When you have nothing positive to say about your own record, find a way to distract the voters by attacking your opponent, even if the accusation is completely false,” Lee continued.
“I call on Mazie Hirono personally and her campaign staff to issue a public apology. Let’s keep this election focused, as Governor Lingle has stated, on the issues,” he concluded.

Lingle Violates Federal Election Laws, 3 Days into General Election Campaign
News Release from Hirono Campaign August 15, 2012
HONOLULU, HI – Yesterday, Linda Lingle, Hawaii’s Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, released a political advertisement that violates Federal Election laws. Federal Election laws require candidates for federal office to “Stand By Your Ad” – i.e. the candidate must state that they “approved this message” and have that statement accompanied by a clearly identifiable picture or image of him- or herself. Lingle’s advertisement does not meet this federal requirement.
“By now, it is clear that Linda Lingle’s campaign is trying to remake Lingle’s image and do so quickly as they have only 84 days to try to convince voters that Lingle isn’t closely aligned with the national Republican party and what they stand for,” said Betsy Lin, Campaign Manager for U.S. Senate Democratic nominee, Mazie Hirono. “In doing so, however, we would expect Linda Lingle to follow the letter of the law, which is absolutely clear on these issues, to a tee. We are currently preparing a formal complaint to the Federal Elections Commission and call on Linda Lingle to pull the ad down from TV and her website immediately.”
Lingle concludes the advertisement with the necessary verbal disclaimer, but the accompanying image of Lingle completely disregards Federal Election laws, which states that the candidate’s picture must take up “at least 80 percent of the vertical screen height.”
