Polls

Message to supporters from Djou Campaign August 1, 2012

Some of you may have seen polling numbers earlier this week in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser showing our opponent with a single digit lead.

We are confident in our own internal polling and other polls we have seen that show us with a slight lead or tied. However, even if we believe these numbers, the fact that Charles is within striking distance is a good sign. Charles has spent the bulk of the past year serving in Afghanistan, while his opponent is an incumbent with all the benefits of official office.

Nevertheless, we know that the only poll that counts is the one taken on election day. We recall that just a short time ago, at the same stage of the campaign in the 2010 Special Election, the then Honolulu Star Bulletin and KITV had a poll showing us down by a whopping 20 points and in third place. The newspaper characterized the survey as giving a "sizable lead" to the Democrats. We, however, went on to win that race by 8 points.

More importantly, our campaign isn't about polling or winning a race for the sake of winning. It's about our future. We know that our nation is headed in the wrong direction. Thus far, our current elected officials have done little or nothing to improve our economy, create jobs, reduce our deficit and control our spending. We are on the path of fiscal ruin in Greece, Spain and Italy. Unless we elect people who have the courage and leadership needed to turn this country around, we will be the first generation in this country to leave the next worse off.

That's why we continue to fight, but Charles can't do it alone. So, thank you for standing by us, remaining steadfast and committed to the course that lies ahead.

As always, mahalo and aloha,

Team Djou
