Hawaii/Pacific Basin AHEC completes initial physician workforce assessment.
The Hawaii/Pacific Basin Area Health Education Center (AHEC) has established a database of actively practicing non-military physicians in Hawaii. Hawaii is approximately 600 physicians short of what a similar community has on the mainland, and this could grow to 1,600 in 10 years.
Estimated shortages of primary care physician assistants and nurse practitioners add to the shortage of care providers.
