HONOLULU – Three respected healthcare innovators will share their experiences and ideas for transforming healthcare in Hawai'i on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in the State Capitol Auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The event, titled Listen. Engage. Transform., is open to the public. Governor Neil Abercrombie will kick-off the event by sharing the Administration’s healthcare priorities. He will be followed by presentations by the national experts and an exchange of ideas with healthcare leaders in Hawai'i.
The Governor’s Healthcare Transformation Coordinator Beth Giesting said, “This presentation is to identify best practices and innovations here and across the country to develop Hawai'i’s strategy for increasing access to healthcare and achieving sustainability in our healthcare system.”
Ms. Giesting and Senior Policy Advisor Dr. Thomas Tsang are leading a process to convene local and national experts to exchange knowledge about healthcare reform as the state moves forward in its health transformation.
The featured speakers are:
- Denise Levis Hewson, RN, BSN, MSPH is the Director of Clinical Programs and Quality Improvement for Community Care of North Carolina, a Medicaid “medical home” program serving over one million enrollees.
- Craig Jones, MD is the Director of the Vermont Blueprint for Health, a chronic care initiative established by the state of Vermont under the leadership of its Governor, Legislature, and bi-partisan Health Care Reform Commission.
- Aaron McKethan, PhD, is the Vice President for Strategy for RxAnte, a health information technology company that has developed innovative approaches for improving medication adherence.
“Forty years ago, Hawai'i’s groundbreaking Prepaid Health Care Act gave us an enduring advantage in health insurance coverage,” said Dr. Tsang. “However, the rising costs of healthcare and the increasing need for chronic care places a great strain on the current healthcare system. Governor Neil Abercrombie’s vision for a New Day identifies healthcare transformation as a priority.”
