Yesterday, the Hawaii Senate Health Committee decided to shelve a beverage tax proposal – effectively killing this discriminatory tax for this year.

Senators heard loud and clear that hundreds of businesses and thousands of consumers – like you – are opposed to government telling consumers what they should or shouldn’t eat and drink.

However, during the committee’s debate earlier this week there was a lot of talk by some Senators about the need for such a tax because of perceived health consequences from consuming beverages. So we must remain vigilant in opposing continued attempts to lay unfair blame for obesity on any single food or beverage.
