Rep Marumoto's ideas included in Vice Chair of Transportation's ATV Bill
News Release from Office of Rep Barbara Marumoto
Representative Marumoto has been championing ATV safety legislation for the many years. The need for this legislation is highlighted in the recent mishap by a Honolulu Police officer who was injured during an ATV training exercise. Rep. Marumoto has introduced several bills that include prohibitions to minors riding on ATVs and requiring the use of helmets while riding on ATVs.
On Monday February 13, 2012 the House Transportation Committee will hear House Bill 2277, which includes many of the proposals, previously introduced by Representative Marumoto. Representative Marumoto is excited to have the support of the Transportation Committee's Vice Chairperson on this issue.
House Bill 2277 will prohibit minors, persons under the age of 16, from riding on ATVs. The bill will also prohibit people from riding ATVs on public highways, carrying passengers, and operating ATVs at night. The bill will also require the use of helmets for anyone who rides on an ATV.
