If the Big Island members of “Citizens Against Virtually Everything” (CAVE) are looking a little flush lately, maybe an item found on the website of the University of Hawaii at Hilo-based Global Hope Club offers an explanation. According to Global Hope, “Nancy Aleck, the dynamic Exec. Director of the People's Fund, a progressive, grassroots, small-grants ($3,000 limit) organization, will be on the Big Island during Sept. 20-23 to present information and grant request forms … .”
The People’s Fund achieved some notoriety in February when People’s Fund board member Mark Burch wrote a Letter to the Editor of Ka Leo, the student newspaper at U.H. Manoa. In it Director Burch explained that disgraced academic fraud, University of Colorado “professor” Ward Churchill was right to call the 9-11 dead, “Little Eichmanns.” Said Burch, “The success of the stock market is built upon the rotting corpses of the victims of American economic imperialism, which number close to 6 million, that iconic number needed to designate mass murder a holocaust. That is all that (Ward) Churchill is saying with his little Eichmanns comment. He meant it as a metaphor, but the recent revelations … prove that it is factually accurate.”
Of course the People’s Fund is not alone in these views, the Fund is featured in the pages of the Hawaii Island Journal whose, “Director of Sales and Marketing,” Tammy Rouleau, announced the “Hawaii Debut” of “911 in Plane Site” a so-called documentary, which was shown on Sept. 26, 2004, at SKEA, just a few feet away from the offices of the Hawaii Island Journal in South Kona. “911 in Plane Site” tries to “prove” that the U.S. Air Force, not al-Qaeda, carried out the 9-11 attacks. Rouleau’s announcement was posted on the Web site of the Global Hope Club. Global Hope’s Web site has also posted items claiming that the 9-11 attacks were carried out by the CIA. Global Hope still to this day links to http://www.whatreallyhappened.com -- an anti-Semitic Web site, which has dozens of articles claiming the 9-11 attacks were carried out by “Israeils.”
The Big Island’s so-called “left” is not alone in these beliefs. Cindy Sheehan, who protested the continuing liberation of Iraq in Crawford, Texas, wrote to her supporters saying, “Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel.” Tell that to the survivors of Saddam’s mass graves.
Those on the Big Island who are part of the real “reality-based community” need to be aware of the true beliefs of all those who are working every day to undermine national defense with torrents of propaganda and strangle our economy in “environmental” and “cultural” red tape and high taxes. They should be encouraged to stop censoring themselves and speak freely and openly about their true inner beliefs more often. In spite of the fact that many on the left prattle on endlessly about America being a “fascist” country, they do have the right to freely state their views. The Hawai'i Free Press stands ready to help them resist any tendency on their part to censor themselves. Only by ensuring that their true inner beliefs are known to all Big Island residents, can a genuine understanding of their motives be had. Some may say that these statements represent “excess.” The truth is the rest of the time they are holding back.
The announcement of the People’s Fund’s “generosity” posted on the Global Hope Web site continues, explaining that funding is available to: “groups or individuals challenging institutions and attitudes which foster economic, social, racial and gender inequalities. Known activists have been contacted by email or word of mouth. Check your email or ask your activist friend for more information. Neo-Cons, warmongers, homophobes, racists and other folks who do not support American ideals of diversity, liberty, tolerance, justice and equality, need not apply.”
Maybe they didn’t notice, but they seem to be excluding themselves.
