Same-Sex Marriage Decisions
News Release from Hawaii Family Forum June 26, 2013
After months of speculation about its conclusions, the U.S. Supreme Court today handed down its decision involving the federal Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA and Proposition 8.
Regarding DOMA, we are extremely disappointed in the High Court ruling that provided Congress does not have the right to maintain a federal definition of marriage. What that means is that there is no longer a national definition of marriage. The federal government may now be required to accept any legal definition of marriage that a particular state invents. Legal minds across the nation on both sides of the issue are currently dissecting the ruling and what the full ramifications will be.
What this means for Hawaii is that proponents of same-sex marriage will begin a strong campaign to enact same-sex marriage legislatively. A task force recommendation expected in November will most likely recommend legalization.
While the decision today is unfortunate, it will not end the national debate over marriage. In fact, the legal battles over the definition of marriage continue to provide the perfect opportunity for each of us to examine why marriage is so important and to reinforce the value of natural marriage, especially regarding the needs of our keiki.

Fight Against Same-Sex Marriage in Hawaii
by Garret Hashimoto, President, Hawaii Christian Coalition
The Supreme Court has not said they would allow same sex marriage unconditionally, rather leave the decisions to the States to decide. Without going into full details, just a small portion of DOMA was ruled on and proposition 8 was basically a punt back to the California Courts, which Justice Scalia called a mockery of the courts overstepping their boundaries, especially against the will of the people.
What can be done to deny same-sex marriages in Hawaii? Let every citizen, their family and friends call their respective State Senators and Representatives that you do not want same-sex marriage here in Hawaii. The consensus clearly shows that the nation disagreed with the courts decision against prop 8 and against same-sex marrige. There are 36 States which do not allow same-sex marriages with 12 States allowing.
Let us here in Hawaii use the POWER afforded to the people to deny same-sex marriages in Hawaii. PLEASE call your legislators NOW!!!
