HIRA Candidate for GOP Chair Stars in Gay Pride Parade
by Andrew Walden
Gladys Gerlich Hayes, nominated unsuccessfully May 18, 2013 for Hawaii GOP Chair by Hawaii Republican Assembly (HIRA) national director Willes Lee, was interviewed by KITV while participating in the June 1, 2013 Gay Pride Parade.
The annual parade is led by convicted thief Michael 'Bitchbear' Golojuch Jr, himself an ex-Republican who, in the 1990s and early 2000s, protested inside Hawaii GOP conventions demanding support for gay 'marriage'. He was later videotaped, and convicted for, stealing campaign signs from Republican State Rep Mark Moses.
Hayes, who rode atop a convertible in the parade, is interviewed near the end of the KITV video. (Hayes video at 1:38.)
KITV says Hayes, Miss Gay Pride 1987-88, "has been coming here to fight for a quarter century."
Hayes explains, "I am a firm believer that everybody should have the right of choice. We've waited a long time and I think we're going to be successful."
At 2010 GOP convention, HIRA tried and failed to defeat a resolution urging Governor Lingle to veto HB444--gay civil unions.
HIRA describes itself as "organized to provide Hawaii conservatives with a home and a voice in Hawaii politics."
