Hawaii Department of Public Safety Names New State Sheriff

 Robin Nagamine, State Sheriff

The Department of Public Safety (PSD) today announced the appointment of Robin Nagamine as State Sheriff. Nagamine will be in charge of the department’s Sheriff Division, effective June 3, 2013.

“Robin will bring valuable experience in his new role as Sheriff,” said PSD Director Ted Sakai. “He knows the Sheriff Division and the issues we face. He will provide sound leadership and professionalism and ensure that the division operates efficiently.”

Nagamine has been a deputy sheriff for 27 years and has worked in all sections within the Sheriff Division. This includes the Airport, Patrol, Courts, Receiving Desk, Special Operations, K-9 Training, Warrants and Administration. He also served as Acting Sheriff and Acting First Deputy at various times in his law enforcement career.

Nagamine has had training in Critical Incident Management, Advanced Incident Management Systems, Active Shooter Situations, Crisis Intervention, Event Security Planning for Public Safety Professionals, and SWAT.

“We are fortunate to have someone like Robin who has participated in and worked through all the growth and changes within the Sheriff Division over the years,” said Shawn Tsuha, the previous State Sheriff who Gov. Neil Abercrombie last week named PSD Deputy Director for Law Enforcement. “Most importantly, he will provide institutional knowledge on the structure and operations of the Sheriff Division. We are proud to have him advance in this role.”
