Message to Supporters from No Hawaii Beverage Tax
The beverage tax has been defeated for the third year in a row!
The Hawaii state legislature adjourned on May 2 without approving the proposed one-cent per ounce beverage tax.
Unfortunately, we know from past experience that even though the public doesn't want a beverage tax, some lawmakers will keep pushing for one.
This is an important victory for consumers and businesses across the state. Residents of Hawaii already have a high tax burden, and we sent a clear message that a tax on sweetened beverages would hurt hardworking families and businesses. As the economy continues its slow recovery, we hope our lawmakers spend more time worrying about jobs and less time worrying about what we buy at the grocery store.
For all of you who sent emails and made calls to your legislators - we want you to know that your support made all the difference!
