$1.6M IN GRANTS AVAILABLE TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

News Release from Office of the Mayor, April 19, 2013

Mayor Kirk Caldwell today announced that the City is seeking proposals from qualified non-profit organizations for $1.6 million in Grants-in-Aid funds, which will serve economically and/or socially disadvantaged populations or provide services for public benefit in the areas of arts, culture, economic development or the environment.

“We’re looking forward to receiving some exciting offers to do some great work for our community,” Caldwell said.

A Request for Proposals is available for a total of nine grants to fund the following needs:

  • A program serving at-risk/alienated youth at Farrington, Campbell, Kapolei and Leilehua high schools.
  • The planning and/or support of programs to support the following Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area communities: Waipahu, Ewa and Wahiawa.
  • The planning and/or development of programs in Koolauloa, as recommended to the department by the Hauula Community Association, and that includes a media arts program at Kahuku High School.
  • The provision of supportive services and/or rental assistance for individuals or families experiencing homelessness, of which a minimum of $250,000 shall be appropriated specifically for programs serving Central Oahu and the North Shore.
  • Clean and sober living programs that provide supportive and/or residential treatment services for ex-offenders.
  • A program that assists mobile food vendors (i.e. lunch wagons) with complying with health and safety standards and the identification of additional private and/or public venues.
  • A statewide federal tax-exempt non-profit organization to encourage increased investments in sustainable and community-based approaches to economic development.
  • The improvement of facilities that provide supportive, vocational and residential services for developmentally disabled adults.
  • A health and wellness program.

The Request for Proposals is available at the Office of the Division of Purchasing, Department of Budget and Fiscal Services, Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street, Room 115, or online at www.honolulu.gov/pur

All agencies must submit their sealed proposals to the Office of the Division of Purchasing by 4:00 p.m., Hawaii Standard Time (HST), Monday, April 29, 2013, as evidenced by a date and time stamp from the Division of Purchasing. The Division of Purchasing is located at Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street, Room 115, Honolulu, Hawaii.
