A Honolulu Council Committee on Legislative Matters hearing this Monday, November 26 at 10 a.m. at Honolulu Hale will consider Resolution 12-139, introduced by Council Chair Ernie Martin, to remove the park designation for the so-called Nanakuli Regional Park from the Waianae Sustainable Communities Plan.  The park—located on land planned for the expansion of PVT Landfill--had been designated in 2010, under the Hannemann administration, as a boost to competing Waimanalo Gulch landfill. 

By removing the park designation, PVT’s path to expansion will be clear and the closure of Waimanalo Gulch therefore becomes that much more possible.

Currently PVT accepts only construction waste.  With the opening of the third boiler at H Power, the flow of non-construction waste to Waimanalo Gulch is further reduced.

Waimanalo Gulch is directly mauka of Jeff Stone's Ko Olina resort.  Do the math.

Persons wishing to testify are requested to register by 10 a.m. as follows:

a.        On-Line at http://www.honolulu.gov/council/attnspklm.htm;

b.        By faxing to 768-3827 your name, phone number and subject matter;

c.        By filling out a registration form in person; or

d.        By calling 768-3814.

Persons who have not registered to testify will be given an opportunity to speak on an item following oral testimonies of the registered speakers.

Each speaker is limited to two-minute presentation.

If submitted, written testimonies, including the testifier’s address, e-mail address and phone number, may be posted by the City Clerk and available to the public on the City’s DocuShare Website.
