DEBATE FACT CHECK: MAZIE'S PRE-K ACT NEVER PASSED

News Release from www.Lingle2012.com

Statement from Campaign Manager, Bob Lee:

"Really Mazie?  There you go again.

You talk about your Providing Resources Early for Kids (PRE-K) Act in 2009 as if it were legislation that you passed. The fact is, regardless of its merits, you just couldn't get it done for the people of Hawaii when your bill died in the very committee you sit in."

Papahânaumokuâkea National Monument

Again tonight, Ed Case took credit for creating Papahânaumokuâkea National Monument. His role, if any, was so small and behind the scenes no one knew he was any part of it. In 2006, it was Governor Linda Lingle and her Administration who partnered with community, state, federal, environmental, native Hawaiian groups, and the President of the United States to create one of the world's largest conservation area, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ed Case was simply not involved.

At best, he wrote a bill attempting to protect the Northwest Hawaiian Islands, (NW Hawaiian Islands Marine Refuge Act of 2005). The bill was killed in committee in 2005 (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d109:5:./temp/~bdsjYR::|/home/LegislativeData.php?n=BSS;c=109|).

DEBATE FACT CHECK: MAZIE'S VAGUE SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

Statement from Lingle Campaign Manager, Bob Lee:

"Hirono's vaguely defined 'advocacy' for clean energy and sustainability is laughable. In 22 years as a state legislator and Lieutenant Governor, the only major energy solution she has gotten behind was the economically irresponsible, failed "gas price cap" that she championed during her unsuccessful run for Governor in 2002.

Many have asked? What has Hirono been doing in Congress for the past six years? The people of Hawaii have not seen any measurable energy policy or food sustainability policy come out of the Congresswoman's office. Mazie's ineffective leadership has left the people of Hawaii wanting.

Before Hirono even stepped foot in Washington, D.C. as Congresswoman, Governor Linda Lingle had taken concrete, comprehensive actions to reduce Hawaii's dependence on imported oil beginning with the Energy for Tomorrow legislative package in 2005, and continuing with the landmark passage of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI) in 2008."
