For many Americans September 11 is a day for quiet reflection and prayer. For Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama it was a day to put politics aside and come together at Ground Zero to commemorate the dead. Governor Lingle issued a proclamation. Mayor Mufi Hannemann spoke to a memorial gathering in downtown Honolulu.
But Big Island Weekly editor Kristine Kubat has a different message. According to Kubat’s September 3 column, “If you think the U.S. government was behind the 9-11 attack, you are not alone.” Kubat then proceeds to promote “9-11 Truth Awareness” by inviting them to a 9-11 denier demonstration organized by convicted federal felon and ex-con Jim Albertini and his mis-named Malu-Aina “peace” center.
Kubat encourages readers to look to the thoroughly debunked “Loose Change” movies for “9-11 truth”. She even implies that the FBI agrees with her, claiming: “FBI Director Robert Mueller said there is no firm evidence of a connection between Al Quaeda (sic) and the 9-11 attack.”
A Google search for Kubat’s assertion about Mueller leads directly back to the 9-11 conspiracy site www.911exposed.org which informs its readers, “Even the FBI says there is no evidence to link the above men to the 9/11 hijackings.”
The website claims:
“During an April 19 (2002) speech delivered to the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, FBI director Mueller flatly stated: [The hijackers] “left no paper trail … In our investigation, we have not uncovered a single piece of paper — either here in the United States or in the treasure trove of information that has turned up in Afghanistan and elsewhere — that mentioned any aspect of the Sept. 11 plot.”
Does that mean there is “no firm connection”? It is not difficult to find out. Mueller’s speech is on the Internet.
Immediately following the sentence quoted by 911exposed, Muller continues:
“The hijackers had no computers, no laptops, no storage media of any kind. They used hundreds of different pay phones and cell phones, often with prepaid calling cards that are extremely difficult to trace. And they made sure that all the money sent to them to fund their attacks was wired in small amounts to avoid detection.
“In short, the terrorists had managed to exploit loopholes and vulnerabilities in our systems, to stay out of sight, and to not let anyone know what they were up to beyond a very closed circle.
“The investigation was enormously helpful in figuring out who and what to look for as we worked to prevent attacks. It allowed us to see where we as a nation needed to close gaps in our security. And it gave us clear and definitive proof that al Qaeda was behind the strikes.”
Kubat’s lie: “Mueller said there is no firm evidence of a connection between Al Quaeda (sic) and the 9-11 attack.”
Reality: Mueller speaks of “clear and definitive proof that al Qaeda was behind the strikes.”
Any lie is OK as long as it is against America.
