The City and County of Honolulu is participating in the 2020 National Community Survey. This year’s survey includes questions about the quality of life, city services, policies and management of the City and County of Honolulu, as well as opinions on issues pertinent to O`ahu residents, such as the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of mail-in ballots, and efforts to assist the homeless.
This information is meant to inform city leaders, stakeholders and the public about how they are serving residents, gauge perceptions of Honolulu, and see how the community compares to over 600 communities nationally. The 2020 mail-in survey was sent to a random sample of 1,200 O`ahu residents in early November. In addition, invitations to participate in an online version of the survey were sent to 1,500 randomly selected residents.
This year, an online version of the survey will be available to all O’ahu residents beginning January 4, 2021 through January 31, 2021.

Residents who received a survey or an invitation in the mail, should use the link provided on the printed survey or invitation.
The National Community Survey will analyze data collected by this online link separately to maintain the “statistical significance” of the data collected from the 2,700 randomly selected households. The online survey is for residents over 18 years old who weren’t one of the households selected for the random mail-in or online survey. Survey responses are anonymous. The results are tabulated on the mainland and will be reported in group form only.
The National Community Survey is a collaborative effort by the National Research Center (NCS)/ POLCO and is standardized to ensure the research methods are directly comparable to over 600 communities nationally. This is the 12th year that this survey is being conducted for Honolulu.
We encourage O`ahu residents to participate in this survey and have your voices heard on important issues facing the City and County of Honolulu.
