Hawaii GOP Will Bind all its 2020 Convention Delegates to Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump

News Release from Hawaii GOP

Honolulu, Hawaii – Dec 11, 2019 – The Hawaii Republican Party proudly announced today that it will bind all its 19 National Convention delegates to Presidential Candidate, President Donald J. Trump.

Hawaii is the first state to officially cancel its presidential preference vote as a result of President Trump being the sole candidate to qualify for the ballot, positioning President Trump for a sweep of GOP delegates across the nation in the GOP’s run-up to the National Convention being held in Charlotte, North Carolina this coming August.

The Hawaii GOP Party Chair, Shirlene Ostrov, stated, “Hawaii Republicans across the state are united in their support of President Trump and look forward to his second four-year term. President Trump’s economic achievements have benefitted citizens across the country and in Hawaii, despite corrupt leadership of state Democrats who have negligently accrued billions in unfunded pension liabilities and deceptively implemented a grossly failed rail project destined to raise property taxes out-of-sight.”

Trump Campaign Chairman AL Frenzel commented that statewide enthusiasm for President Trump has reinvigorated local Party membership and will result in successes up and down the ballot. Frenzel suggested that Hawaiians who have witnessed the failures of the state’s Democrat leadership should take into consideration the major successes they have seen under President Trump and Republican leadership as they vote in 2020.

Since President Trump took office, he has added 13,600 jobs to Hawaii’s economy and lowered the state’s unemployment rate to 2.7%. Under President Obama, Hawaii’s unemployment rate peaked at 7.3%. President Trump has added money back into paychecks of Hawaii voters, with the Hawaii taxpayer receiving an average tax cut of $1,345. It’s clear President Trump’s policies are working for Americans everywhere, and the Hawaii Republican Party is excited to re-elect this president in 2020.

With warmest aloha,

SHIRLENE OSTROV

NOQ: Hawaii does not trust us

SA: Hawaii GOP commits all delegates to Trump  ...Kate Stanley, chairwoman of the Hawaii Democratic Party, said she doubts Trump has won over Hawaii voters. “I think he’s less popular than he probably was four years ago,” she said.

As for the decision to cancel the GOP preference poll in Hawaii, “I don’t think that helps the Republican Party. I think parties thrive when they have choices and appeal to a wider range of people,” she said. “I feel the Democratic party is doing that, and we have many active presidential candidates, and we’re attracting new members.”....

The Hill:  Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld (R) have mounted challenges against Trump. The long-shot candidates have criticized state parties in the past for blocking primary elections.

“For a President who claims to be beloved, Donald Trump and his operatives are going to extraordinary lengths to eliminate competition and avoid actually facing voters,” said Joe Hunter, a spokesperson for the Weld campaign. “Republicans everywhere, including Hawaii, deserve real choices, not the coronation of a deeply flawed incumbent who is intent on taking the Party down with him.”

Walsh called the decision a “violation of the principles of the party” and said “today’s GOP is more like a dictatorship than an organization committed to individual liberty.”

“The Republican Party apparatus has been hijacked away from its members by Trump loyalists,” Walsh added in a statement.

He also accused Hawaii GOP Chair Shirlene Ostrov of putting her loyalty with the president ahead of party members

“She has decided her choice is more important than the more than 32,000 Republicans who showed up and voted in the last election, who now don't get a voice in their representation,” he added.

AI: The Walsh campaign "will do everything we can to help Hawaii voters fight back."
