Conservative Rankings of Hawaii State Legislators
By Selected News Articles @ 9:15 PM :: 4691 Views :: Hawaii State Government, Hawaii Statistics

The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) has just released its ratings of the 2018 session of the Hawaii State Legislature. ACUF’s Ratings—both federal and state—are an initiative of ACUF’s Center for Legislative Accountability. These ratings are designed to reflect how over 8,000 of the nation’s elected officials view the role of government and illustrate the differences between chambers of the legislature, while revealing lawmakers’ positions on a wide variety of issues that directly affect residents of Hawaii.

ACUF reviewed selected pieces of legislation voted on in both the Senate and House to produce average scores of each chamber as well as individual scores for each sitting member.  A description of the selected bills may be seen HERE

The average score for Republican Hawaii representatives was 19%. The overall average for the Hawaii House was 14%—down from 23% in 2017.  The highest-ranked Representative was Republican Rep Bob McDermott at 31%.  The highest-ranked House Democrat was Rep Sharon Har at 29%.

There were no Hawaii Republican State Senators in 2018.  The overall average for the Hawaii Senate was 7% -- down from 25% in 2017.  The highest-ranked Senator was Democrat Gil Riviere at 21%.

Nineteen Senators and two Representatives – all Democrats – earned membership in the ‘Coalition of the Radical Left’ by scoring 10% or less.
