Special Election: Waters Beats Ozawa by 1,004 Votes

Results are in for the Honolulu Council District 6 Special Election ending April 13, 2019.
The Honolulu Office of Elections reports that Tommy Waters has defeated Trevor Ozawa 17,491 (51.48%) to 16,487 (48.52%)..
The Total Number of Votes cast is 34,040 of 69,031 = 49.31% turnout.
33,319 votes were cast by mail, 659 walk-in votes were cast at Honolulu Hale.

Even as the Honolulu Rail project collapses around Mayor Caldwell’s ears, the election result gives a pro-Caldwell faction the majority on the council. This contradiction is due to the failure of anti-rail politicians to separate themselves from criminals.
