“Hawaiian Air Suffers Major Defeat in Key House Committee”
News Release from Rep Bob McDermott, March 19, 2019
HONOLULU, HAWAIʻI – This morning the House Labor Committee unanimously approved a draft resolution calling on Hawaiian Airlines to return the 200 plus call center jobs it has outsourced to the Philippines.
The resolution, authored by Rep. Bob McDermott (R. Ewa Beach, Iroquois Point) admonishes Hawaiian Air for depriving local people of the opportunity to work the customer service call centers and asks the company to return the 200 jobs it stripped away in 2007.
"It's time for Hawaiian Air to do the right and bring those jobs back for local people," stated McDermott. "The fact that this resolution has won bipartisan support should send that message loud and clear to the executive suite at Hawaiian."
The resolution received the support of the United Public Workers Union and a number of individuals who provided written testimony. The only opposition came from Hawaiian Air's corporate spokesman.
The resolution now goes to the Finance Committee for final approval. That hearing has not been scheduled.
