CONGRESSMAN ED CASE APPOINTED TO KEY HOUSE COMMITTEE

Only the 2nd Hawaii Congressman to sit on the coveted Appropriations Committee. Case also lands key leadership role as regional Whip

News Release from Office of Rep Ed Case, January 11, 2019

(Honolulu, HI) – Less than a week after he officially assumed his seat in Congress, Ed Case has landed one of the most coveted posts in the House – a seat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.  His appointment is only the second time that a Representative from Hawaii has landed this key assignment. The Committee makes major decisions on money spent by the federal government.

“I am pleased that my colleagues in the House entrusted me with this critical responsibility,” said Case.  “Together with Senator Brian Schatz, who sits on the Senate Appropriations, we are in incredibly important positions to help Hawaii with activities, programs, personnel and equipment that rely heavily on federal assistance.”

Case is only the second member of Congress from Hawaii to be appointed to the House Appropriations Committee.  The last time a Hawaii member of Congressman sat on this key committee was U.S. Representative Daniel K. Akaka, who served in this post from 1981 to 1990.

“When I campaigned last year for my return to Congress, I vowed that, if elected, I would hit the ground running,” said Case. “Now that I will be sitting on the Appropriations Committee, I will have the opportunity to deliver as promised.”

Case was also elected today by his peers as co-whip of Region 2, which consists of majority Members representing Northern California, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Marianas.  His responsibilities in this leadership position include coordinating and communicating positions on critical issues among the Members of his region.
