Brian Schatz: Tax Reform Was A Conspiracy To Make People Lose Their Jobs
by Julia Cohen, Daily Caller, May 27, 2018
The goal of the 2017 Tax Cuts And Jobs Act was to make more people unemployed, according to Hawaii Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz on Sunday.
“The tax cuts are working exactly as intended,” Schatz tweeted Sunday evening in response to an Axios article, which has a Twitter headline suggesting companies would soon be slashing their work forces. The Axios article cited the CEOs of two major companies — Coca-Cola and AT&T.
The CEOs suggested they would reduce their work force over time, according to Axios. “Absolutely not in my business,” Coca-Cola CEO Troy Taylor said, regarding potential staff wage growth. AT&T’s staff is 20 percent call center workers — a number CEO John Stephens said he is looking to reduce.
This isn’t the first time Schatz suggested the tax cuts were a conspiracy. “They knew the tax cut would benefit the wealthy and not normal folks … Telling the truth now is not a profile in courage; it is a confession,” the senator wrote in a May 1 tweet.
