Democratic Senator Calls Out Party For Fundraising Off Fake News
by Thomas Phippen, Daily Caller, April 16, 2018
A Democratic senator called out the national party for a fundraising with the misleading subject line special counsel Robert Mueller was about to be “fired.”
“I’m so furious I can barely write this email,” a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraising e-mail purportedly from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Friday. While the subject line declared, “Mueller FIRED,” only after clicking into the e-mail does the potential donor read: President Donald Trump “is inches away from firing Robert Mueller and derailing the entire Russia investigation.”
The party should not send such misleading headlines, Hawaiian Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz said in a tweet Monday. “We have to be able to convey a sense of urgency without being tricky,” Schatz wrote.

Trump is on the verge of firing Mueller, who is investigating Russia’s attempts to influence the 2016 election, various news outlets have speculated for months. Trump has no plans to fire Mueller, even as his investigation is reportedly probing various aspects of the Trump Organization, the White House has maintained.
U.S. Attorneys for the Southern District of New York seized documents from Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s office April 9 based in part on a referral from the special counsel’s investigation, increasing the speculation Trump would ignore the advice of advisors and fire Mueller anyway.
“My Republican colleagues are actively HELPING him,” Pelosi’s fundraising e-mail said. “They’re jeopardizing our democracy, our national security, and the safety of every election we hold. Frankly, they can’t be trusted.”
“I need a MASSIVE 24-hour fundraising surge to send them a powerful message: If they let Trump fire Mueller, we’ll kick each and EVERY one of them out of office,” Pelosi said.
Trump views Mueller’s investigation as a disgrace and a waste of time, the president said. “We’ll see what happens. Many people have said, ‘you should fire him,'” Trump said after the Cohen raid. “Again, they found nothing, and in finding nothing, that’s a big statement,” Trump said, referring to the fact the special counsel has not reported evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian actors.
