OHA Criminal Activity Since 2012: A Handy Guide for FBI Agents

According to recent news reports, the FBI and Hawaii Attorney General are investigating 'public corruption, misappropriation' allegations at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

HNN March 20 reports:

the AG’s office has sent OHA a letter on Feb. 26, asking for thousands of pages of documents, including records of contracts issued by OHA and its for-profit subsidiaries dating back to 2012.

They’re also asking for nearly six years of OHA bank statements, records of credit card and check transactions, wire transfers and all information relating to OHA’s outside investments.

Only a small portion of the records involve actions taken by individual trustees. Most of the documents relate to actions taken by or approved by CEO Kamanao Crabbe and OHA’s top management, adding fuel to efforts to oust OHA's top executive.….

(And) “(OHA Trustee) Dan Ahuna is being investigated by the FBI.” 

HNN March 8, 2018 reports:  

“The AG’s probe previously centered on a contract given to Hawaiian scholar Kaumana Beamer…. (which) cost OHA more than $400K….  Sources told us the AG’s office and the FBI have broadened their probe seeking financial documents dating back to 2012.  They say investigators have asked for copies of contracts with other vendors, trustee emails, as well as financial records of OHA’s nonprofit subsidiaries….”

The reference to "documents dating back to 2012" shows that the investigation lines up with the term of Kamana’o Crabbe, who became OHA CEO in January, 2012.
