After 4 Hours of Testimony, Democrats take 13 minutes to PASS HB-2739 HD1 out of committee!
From Honolulu Republican Party, March 1, 2018
Aloha!
As many of you probably already know, physician-assisted suicide (PAS) is on its way to becoming legal in our Aloha State.
Yesterday, the House Committees on Health and Human Services and Judiciary unanimously passed HB-2739 out of committee. This is a major attack on Hawaii's most vulnerable, our disabled and our kupuna.
The vote in the committee was as follows:
House Committee on Health & Human Services:
House Committee on Judiciary:
Here are the final reports from the last two days of hearings:
- Final Bill HD-2739 Relating to Health (aka Assisted Suicide)
- Committee Hearing Report HB-2739: Hawaii Democrats Blind Suicide Leap.
- Minority Caucus Proposed Amendments

"The way this bill was hustled through sight unseen is an example of the dysfunction of the legislature."Representative McDermott - Hawaii Free Press.

Although many of us are saddened by the outcome, the battle is far from over! We will have several opportunities to voice our concerns before the end of the session.
As this bill moves to the floor of the House for second and third readings sometime between now and March 8th (First Crossover), we encourage you to email ALL Representatives and ask them to vote NO on HB-2739 HD1 Relating to Health (aka Assisted Suicide). You can also email your Representative directly.
Respectfully,
Brett Kulbis
Honolulu County Chairman
