WARD URGES IGE TO RELEASE JANUARY 13TH HI-EMA TAPES
News Release from Office of Rep Gene Ward, January 25, 2018
HONOLULU, HAWAI’I - Representative Gene Ward (R–Hawaii Kai, Kalama Valley) wrote a letter to Governor Ige urging him to release the HI-EMA security tapes on the morning of January 13th (see attached).
“I am writing to urge you to release the HI-EMA security tapes from the morning of January 13th. The people of Hawaiʻi deserve to see the events that led to those frightful thirty-eight minutes. For security reasons, faces can easily be blurred,” Ward wrote.
“How, after learning two minutes after that the alert was false, forgetting one’s Twitter password makes for a legitimate excuse for not alerting the people you serve is beyond me,” he continued.
Representative Ward has previously called on the Governor to give the legislators a tour of the HI-EMA facilities and has introduced legislation to have DOE schools develop disaster and attack preparedness plans by September 1st.
