DDOS Attack on Hawai’i Free Press tied to Gabbard’s Cult?

by Andrew Walden

HawaiiFreePress.com readers may have noticed some difficulty or slowness downloading articles on November 7 and 8, 2017.  According to our web hosting company, HawaiiFreePress.com was the target of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack aimed specifically at our server.

Wired.com describes this type of attack as “a flood of requests sent to a website to view its pages, causing the web server to crash….”   After about 48 hours of disruption, our hosting company was able to disperse the junk requests and restore normal site functions.

It was not exactly clear why HawaiiFreePress.com was being targeted until two days later when we saw another local website, MeanwhileInHawaii.org, was also being hit.  Journalist Christine Gralow, operator of  MeanwhileInHawaii.org, has only one article posted on her site—an expose of Rep Tulsi Gabbard’s so-called ‘Science of Identity’ Hare Krishna Cult entitled:   “Butler's Web: Krishna, Politics, and QNET's International Pyramid Scheme.”

Gralow posted her article October 20, 2017—drawing dozens of comments. Says Gralow: "it spread so quickly that it reached the #5 most popular spot at Longform.org, just behind stories from Politico, Mother Jones, The Guardian, and The New York Times."  We linked to her article October 23, drawing over 3,000 views.

"Then The New Yorker, November 6, 2017, published a cult rundown entitled: “What Does Tulsi Gabbard Believe?”  HawaiiFreePress.com linked to the New Yorker article that same day, drawing over 3,300 views.  The next day we were hit by the DDOS attack.

Krishna Consciousness is when you know the Krishnas did it.
