THREE CHARGED WITH ESCAPE IN THE SECOND DEGREE

News Release from Office of Attorney General November 8, 2017

HONOLULU – Attorney General Doug Chin announced charges against three state inmates for Escape in the Second Degree.

Inmate Brian Aquino was charged on November 7, 2017. Aquino, 32, escaped from the Waiawa Correctional Facility on April 18, 2017 and remained at large until he was apprehended on May 3, 2017. Aquino has prior convictions for burglary, assault, abuse, and criminal property damage.

Inmate Leinette Kainoa Reyes was charged October 30, 2017. Reyes, 33, was given permission to leave the Women's Community Correctional Center on July 19, 2017 to participate in the "work-line” community-based section and perform landscaping duties. She ran from the work-line and was not apprehended until July 27, 2017.

Inmate Raymond Sadao Racelis was charged on June 14, 2017. Racelis, 45, was in custody at the Oahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) Module 20 Work Furlough Program when he was given permission to be away from the facility on a work pass on December 19, 2016. Racelis did not return to the facility that day, and was later arrested on June 13, 2017, on a separate warrant issued by OCCC.

Escape in the Second Degree is a class C felony and carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and a $10,000.00 fine.

The charges for each are considered allegations of wrongdoing, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he or she is found guilty of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
