Honolulu to hold 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, September 8, 2017

Honolulu – The public is invited to join the City and County of Honolulu’s Remembrance Ceremony paying tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony will be held on Monday, September 11, beginning at 10 a.m. in front of the Eternal Flame Monument on the front lawn of Honolulu Hale featuring Honolulu’s first responders and airline representatives.

The 9/11 Remembrance and Na Lei Aloha ceremonies will feature music, speeches, and lei presentation from City and County of Honolulu first responders and other dignitaries. Participants include officials from the Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Fire Department, Honolulu Emergency Services Department, Honolulu Department of Emergency Management, United States military, airline industry representatives, a color guard unit, and Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawaiʻi.

FLAGS TO BE LOWERED TO HALF-STAFF FOR PATRIOT DAY ON MONDAY

HONOLULU – At the direction of the President of the United States, Gov. David Ige has ordered that the United States flag and the Hawai‘i state flag will be flown at half-staff on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at the State Capitol and upon all state offices and agencies as well as the Hawai‘i National Guard in the State of Hawai‘i. The flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset.

This action will mark Patriot Day, in honor of the nearly 3,000 people who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and those who so nobly aided their fellow citizens in America’s time of need.

The president also proclaims Friday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 as National Days of Prayer and Remembrance in honor of those lost 16 years ago, as well as their grieving families and the brave first responders who acted with such heroism.
