OHA seeks community input on its upcoming biennium budget

HONOLULU (March 28, 2017) – The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) is accepting community input through March 31 for its preliminary budget for fiscal years 2018 and 2019.

“We understand that as a trust we have an obligation to manage trust funds responsibly,” said Kamanaʻopono Crabbe, OHA’s Chief Executive Officer and Ka Pouhana. “We have to make sure funds are directed towards programs and services that meet our mandate to better the lives of Native Hawaiians while at the same time saving to ensure that the trust can fully serve our moʻopuna (grandchildren) and their moʻopuna. We want to hear from our beneficiaries on how we should strike that balance.”

OHA’s biennium budget covers the periods from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018 (Fiscal Year 2018) and July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019 (Fiscal Year 2019).

OHA has created a webpage (www.oha.org/budget) that includes key information about OHA and its preliminary biennium budget, including the agency’s organizational structure, funding sources and the process for budget development.  Community members are encouraged to share their manaʻo on OHA’s budget by emailing ohabudgetcomments@gmail.com.
