Class of 2016 Shows Increases in Post-High School Preparation

The College and Career Readiness Indicators Report (CCRI) for the Class of 2016 shows that students have made steady, and in some cases significant, improvements in key indicators of college and career readiness, including dual-credit attainment, ACT scores, Advanced Placement (AP) participation, and Career and Technical Education.

Research shows that participation in college-level coursework during high school can increase students’ exposure and aspirations for postsecondary success. High school students who graduate with college credit are more likely to enroll, persist, and succeed in higher education.
Since 2011, dual credit programs offered at high schools statewide have been on the rise. These programs allow students the opportunity to earn both college and high school credit before graduating from high school. Research shows that students with dual credit enroll in college at much higher rates, and students who earn at least six college credits before completing high school are more likely to earn a college degree.
