Mayor Caldwell attending West Coast Mayors Summit on homelessness and resiliency
News Release from City and County of Honolulu December 12, 2016
Mayor Kirk Caldwell will travel to San Francisco next week to attend a West Coast Mayors Summit focused on homelessness and resiliency.
The summit is hosted by San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee, and will be attended by Mayor Caldwell, West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Portland Mayor Charlie Hales, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, and Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg.
(Translation: Caldwell will be meeting with a Whos-Who of ultra-liberal West-Coast Mayors who get homelessness wrong every time and therefore have the largest most intractable homelessness problems.)
On Monday, the summit will focus on Homelessness, and Mayor Caldwell will give a presentation on Honolulu’s success in the Mayor’s Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness.
On Tuesday, the summit will focus on federally funded resiliency projects, and Mayor Caldwell will give a presentation on the Army Corps of Engineers proposed long term Ala Wai flood mitigation project.
In addition, United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro will meet with the mayors on Tuesday.
Mayor Caldwell is scheduled to depart Honolulu this Sunday afternoon, December 11, and return in the late evening Tuesday, December 13. During this time Managing Director Roy Amemiya will serve as Acting Mayor.
