Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade to Commemorate 75th Anniversary of Attack

Over 100 Pearl Harbor Survivors to be honored at Parade and Ceremony

News Release from www.PearlHarborParade.org

WAIKIKI, Hawaii, Nov. 30, 2016 -- December 7, 1941 was the day that the United States of America was thrust into World War II, forever changing our nation and the world. December 7, 2016 will mark the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the "date which would live in infamy." With the charge to "never forget" by President Franklin Roosevelt, Historic Programs along with History / A&E Networks, have accepted the call to remember those whose service and sacrifice preserve our freedom and liberty by providing a meaningful salute to Pearl Harbor Survivors, veterans, active military and their families.

Members of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade Committee are honored to have Gary Sinise serve as our Grand Marshal and join us in saluting our Pearl Harbor Survivors and Honorary Grand Marshals. The mission of the Gary Sinise Foundation aligns perfectly with this historic event by "honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need. We do this by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen and build communities."

Thank you for preserving our liberty and freedom

Over 4,000 parade participants, including marching bands, junior and active duty military units along with cultural and civic organizations will parade down Kalakaua Avenue in front of nearly one hundred thousand appreciative spectators. This parade takes place annually and is the official parade of the Pearl Harbor commemoration.

This year's event will feature a 40' replica of the USS Arizona Battleship. It is the goal of the committee to introduce a new battleship each year until all eight battleships moored at Pearl Harbor during the attack are represented in the parade. This event is unique, as it provides an important element of reconciliation. The theme is to "remember past, honoring those whose service and sacrifice preserve our freedom, while celebrating the future and that once bitter enemies can become friends and allies".

The Parade will begin at 6:00pm following an opening ceremony at 4:30pm, where over one hundred Pearl Harbor Survivors and WWII Veterans, graciously accommodated by the Greatest Generation Foundation, will be honored.

Additional information may be found by visiting www.PearlHarborParade.org or by contacting chairman Joel Biggs at cmte@pearlharborparade.org.
