Luncheon: Micronesians and Homelessness in Hawaii
From Grassroot Institute
Thursday, December 1st | 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
1132 Bishop Street, Room 611*
Featuring...
Neil Mellen
Neil Mellen is a Grassroot Institute Scholar and former Peace Corps volunteer in Micronesia. Currently, he leads Habele, an all-volunteer nonprofit in Columbia, SC, serving low income and rural K-12 students within Micronesia.
As homelessness continues to rise in Hawaii, there is a need to examine the programs within Micronesia that seem to be causing people to leave - and in some cases, are forcing them out. Join us for this luncheon as Neil Mellen discusses the relationship between the structure of government programs in Micronesia and the rise of homelessness in Hawaii.

Most convenient & affordable parking: Beretania & Nuuanu Lot
From H1, take the Pali Hwy exit towards downtown. Continue until you reach S. Beretania, and turn right onto S. Beretania. Then turn left on Nuuanu at New Hope Church. Turn left immediately into the lot, park and then use the pay station. Our building can be accessed by either Fort Street Mall or Union Mall off of Bishop St.
If that lot is full, continue on Nuuanu and then make the first left into Mark's Garage. The Chinatown Municipal Lots are also good parking lots.
