Finalists named for UH Mānoa chancellor

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Chancellor Search Advisory Committee has identified two finalists—John V. White and Sonny Ramaswamy—for the UH Mānoa chancellor position. The finalists will be participating in a final round of interviews on the Mānoa campus, November 14 and 15 and November 21 and 22, respectively.
The campus community is invited to meet the finalists at open forums in the Architecture Auditorium on the UH Mānoa campus.

The campus visits by the finalists provide an opportunity for the community to learn more and get involved in the issues that will shape UH Mānoa’s future. Participation in the selection process by students, faculty, staff and the public is highly encouraged and valued.
“The Search Advisory Committee is pleased to bring these outstanding candidates to campus and looks forward to receiving feedback from the campus community,” said Search Advisory Committee Co-Chair David Karl, the director of the UH Mānoa Center of Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education.
The candidates
John V. White
John Valery White is acting chancellor for the Nevada System of Higher Education. He previously served as executive vice president and provost of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), strategic advisor to the president of UNLV and as a professor of law at the William S. Boyd School of Law where he was also the second dean.
Sonny Ramaswamy
Sonny Ramaswamy was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Prior to starting at NIFA, Ramaswamy held a number of academic positions, including: dean of Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences; director of Purdue University’s Agricultural Research Programs; university distinguished professor and head of Kansas State University’s Entomology Department; and professor of entomology at Mississippi State University.
