State Senator Gil Riviere Endorses Djou for Mayor

News Release from www.Djou.com

Honolulu, HI - Mayoral Candidate Charles Djou welcomed the endorsement of State Senator Gil Riviere (D-North Shore, Windward Oahu).

"Sen. Riviere is one of the strongest voices in our community for conservation and protection of our island's beautiful natural resources," stated Djou.  "I am honored to earn Sen. Riviere's backing in our campaign for mayor to restore fiscal responsibility at City Hall.  Our campaign is excited at our growing broad bi-partisan coalition of supporters from all across Oahu."

"I am supporting Charles Djou for Mayor because I don’t think we can afford another four years of Kirk Caldwell.  I know everyone is exhausted on the dilemma called rail, but voters should not forget how quickly the rail project spun out of control.  Four years ago, Kirk Caldwell promised to build rail better; to build it on time and on budget.  Less than two years ago, he still claimed the project was on budget.  And then it wasn’t," commented Sen. Riviere.  "I am looking forward to working with Charles as mayor because I think he will be more responsive to issues that are important to people in all parts of the island, and he will surely have better working relations with the City Council."

Sen. Riviere joins multiple leading Democrats including City Councilmembers Ernie Martin, Ann Kobayashi and Trevor Ozawa, as well as former Governor Ben Cayetano and former Democratic Party Chair and retired Federal Judge Walter Heen, in endorsing Djou for mayor of Honolulu.  Sen. Riviere represents the 23rd District in the Hawaii State Senate and previously served in the Hawaii State House; Sen. Riviere has built a reputation as a strong advocate for agriculture and protection of rural lands on Oahu's North and Windward Shores.
