Mark Garrity named acting director of Department of Transportation Services
News Release from City and County of Honolulu August 24, 2016
Honolulu – Mark Garrity, deputy director of the Department of Transportation Services, has been named acting director of the city agency following last week’s special assignment of DTS Director Michael Formby to serve as the acting executive director of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, or HART.
Mr. Garrity will serve as acting DTS director until the HART board names an interim or permanent executive director and CEO, thus allowing Mr. Formby to resume his normal duties.
“Mark Garrity and Michael Formby have worked extremely well together running the day-to-day operations at the Department of Transportation Services, and the public should see no difference in the level of service and professionalism demonstrated by this critical city agency,” said Mayor Kirk Caldwell. “Mark has a deep understanding of the transportation related issues here on O‘ahu, and he’ll do a fine job running DTS during this interim period.”
Mr. Garrity has been with the City and County of Honolulu since 2013, and has lived on O‘ahu since 2007. Prior to joining the city, Mark helped plan various transit projects in Honolulu, Phoenix, Portland, and Abu Dhabi. As deputy director of DTS he has led several major initiatives including implementation of Complete Streets policies and practices, improvements to bus service, and coordination with HART on construction of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.
