CALDWELL DUCKS DEBATE AS HIS POLLING, FUNDRAISING and CAMPAIGN FADES
News Release from Djou Campaign August 5, 2016
Honolulu, HI - The Djou for Mayor campaign reacted to the mayor's failure to attend the debate tonight in Sand Island sponsored by the Kaimuki Business Association, Kalihi Business Association and Kahala Business Association.
"The Djou for Mayor campaign is rapidly expanding with growing numbers of volunteers and donations every day as we surge toward the election next week," stated Sam Aiona, Djou for Mayor Political Director. "Kirk Caldwell's refusal to join the other mayoral candidates at this evening's debate is just a reflection of the mayor's sagging polling numbers, declining fundraising and rapidly deflating campaign."
Djou leads the incumbent mayor by 9-points according to recent polling by both the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Civil Beat - despite Caldwell outspending Djou by more than a 7-to-1 margin. In the most recent campaign spending report filed on Wednesday, Djou raised nearly double the amount of campaign funds of the current and former mayors combined.
