MAUNALUA BAY RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO MEET AUGUST 18

HONOLULU -- The Maunalua Bay Recreation Advisory Committee, formed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR), will hold its first official meeting on Thursday, August 18 at 6 p.m. at Koko Head Elementary School cafeteria, at 189 Lunalilo Home Road. The MRAC was formed in response to community desires to mitigate ocean user conflicts in Maunalua Bay.
The first meeting agenda includes a presentation by DOBOR staff of the advisory committee goals and objectives under Hawaii Administrative Rules 13-156-3(b), introduction of the elected MRAC members and their respective areas of interest: Sam Montgomery (diving), Makani Christensen (fishing), Danny Loui (paddling), Anne-Marie Kirk (residents), Linda Krieger (surfing) and Jeffery Krantz (thrill craft). MRAC members will serve for a term of three years and may be re-elected.
Members will also hear from DLNR aquatic resources staff about their responsibilities in managing marine resources in Maunalua Bay and potential impacts of recreational activities on those resources. The committee will also discuss their immediate, mid-range and long-range goals.
The meeting is open to interested members of the public. Individuals requiring special accommodations, (i.e. large print materials, sign language interpreters) at the meeting are asked to contact the DOBOR office at 587-3520 at least three days in advance of the meeting.
