PROCLAMATION
News Release from Hawaii Office of Elections, July 29, 2016
Pursuant to Section 17-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, I, DAVID Y. IGE, Governor of the State of Hawaii, and I, SCOTT T. NAGO, Chief Election Officer of the State of Hawaii do hereby proclaim that a Special Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of filling a vacancy in the First Congressional District of the State of Hawaii for the unexpired term ending at noon on the third day of January 2017.
This election will be held in conjunction with the regularly scheduled General Election on this same date.
Nomination papers will be made available, beginning on Monday, August 15, 2016, at the Office of Elections. Candidates to fill the vacant office shall file completed nomination papers not later than 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August, 25, 2016 at the Office of Elections.
Pursuant to Section 12-5(d), Hawaii Revised Statutes, no signatures shall be required on nomination papers for candidates filing to run in a special election to fill a vacancy. Nonpartisan candidates and candidates from all qualified political parties may file for the special election.
