RAIL
"A good leader needs to be able to adjust and change when the conditions change on the ground. The rail has been grossly mismanaged, but the Mayor still stays, 'Stay the course, keep doing the same thing.' That doesn't make sense." - Charles Djou
"Kirk Caldwell demands to know my exact plan to deal with the rail crisis, but it would be irresponsible and nearly impossible to put together a concrete plan at this point because I simply do not have all of the facts– and I am not alone.
The City Council has demanded the facts; the State Legislature has demanded the facts; and the FTA [Federal Transit Administration] has demanded the facts; and in each case, Kirk Caldwell has done everything possible to evade questioning and withhold the details of the rail project and for good reason: because this project is out of control. He has no plan to fix this rail mess and he doesn’t want you to know it."
If Charles is elected mayor of Honolulu, he is going to do something that has not been done in four years: be HONEST with us.
ETHICS
There have been serious accusations that Caldwell's administration actively interfered with ongoing investigations within the Ethics Commission, and even attempted to silence Chuck Totto in the press. Not only that, in addition to being mayor, Kirk Caldwell has a 2nd job at a local bank earning over $200k per year.
In contrast, while on the City Council, Charles Djou successfully fought to give the Ethics Commission the power to issue civil fines for violations of the ethics code and championed stronger ethics rules that have reduced conflicts of interest in Honolulu.
HOMELESSNESS
Homelessness has continued to spiral out of control. Since 2012, there are 587 MORE people living on the streets. Millions have been spent on projects that have helped a tiny handful of people.
Charles Djou believes that the needed resources should be given to non-profits, not to expand city bureaucracy. Read more here.
This is a bipartisan campaign with the goal of bringing the trust of the community back into Honolulu Hale. Currently, the campaign has been endorsed by concerned leaders from across the state, including former Democratic Party Chair, Retired Judge Walter Heen, Former Governor Ben Cayetano, City Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi, and even several labor unions concerned that the current administration is hurting their hardworking members.
