Hawaii Catholic Schools Contribute to Nationwide 99% Graduation Rate

High Percentage of Hawaii Graduates Continue on to Colleges

News Release from Hawaii Catholic Schools

HONOLULU, July 27, 2016 -- Year after year, Catholic schools around the nation report a 99% graduation rate of high school seniors. The same rings true locally for approximately 502 students from Hawaii Catholic Schools, which include Damien Memorial School, Maryknoll High School, Sacred Hearts Academy, Saint Francis, Saint Louis, St. Joseph – Hilo and St. Anthony Junior-Senior High.

"Hawaii Catholic Schools are committed to providing a strong core curriculum with academic merit as well as inspirational visual and performing arts and competitive athletic programs," says Michael Rockers, Ed.D. superintendent. "We encourage everyone to visit www.CatholicSchoolsHawaii.org for information on each of our schools."

"Sacred Hearts is proud to highlight the colleges to which our girls are accepted – the majority going to the mainland attend Catholic colleges – Seattle University, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, Gonzaga and Creighton. These are very high quality schools for our Hawaii Catholic schools graduates," said Head of School Betty White.

"Our students will find success and happiness in these colleges—and we are confident they are completing their course of study with a continued sense of spirituality," White added.

One hundred percent of Maryknoll High School seniors have been accepted to colleges, 29% of which are Catholic colleges. At Saint Francis School, 93% of seniors will be continuing on to a university or college, 23% of which are Catholic colleges.

The results present great news to parents, especially those whose children attend Hawaii Catholic Schools. According to an online survey conducted in November 2014, nearly 1,400 parents of students enrolled in Hawaii Catholic Schools identified "better preparation for college" as the leading reason for choosing their respective schools. Having a successful sports and arts programs, as well as developing students' church and community leadership skills, rounded out the rest of the top 3 attributes.
