Senator Sam Slom to Undergo Surgery
News Release from Office of Sen Sam Slom, April 11, 2016
HONOLULU — Senator Sam Slom announced today that, based on tests performed following his hospitalization last week, physicians have recommended that he undergo coronary bypass surgery. The Senator has elected to have surgery performed later this week to ensure his rapid recovery and return to senate duties at the earliest possible date.
“Although I would prefer to be present at this coming Tuesday’s floor session, my doctors assure me that having this routine surgery at the earliest date ensures my ability to be present for the final vote in the best of health,” Senator Slom said today.

Senator Sam Slom Undergoes Routine Testing
Senate Minority Leader Undergoing Follow-up Testing and Treatment
News Release from Office of Sen Sam Slom April 6, 2016
HONOLULU — Senator Sam Slom concluded a busy day of hearings and marked vote sheets on seven gubernatorial nominations as Vice Chair of the Committee for Economic Development, Environment and Technology on Monday, before checking himself in for routine testing and treatment following his hospitalization last month for a stubborn infection.
“It’s unfortunate that this follow-up occurs during such a critical time,” Slom said last night. “Though I’m much happier giving orders than getting them, these were the doctor’s orders and I was told that voting NO was not an option,” he said in characteristic Slom style.
Slom continues to collaborate daily with his staff on all legislative activities, such as the outcome of yesterday’s Senate Ways and Means hearing on HB1700, the house budget bill. Slom expects to return next week.
“I would like to thank my staff, dedicated supporters, friends and family for their continuing support,” Slom added. “They have all recognized, as must I, that doing the business of the people requires attention to maintaining my health – especially my vocal cords – so I can continue asking the important questions and voting NO to more taxes, over regulation, infringement of constitutional rights and mushrooms on my pizza.”
Slom expresses his appreciation for the many calls received by his office and reiterates his steadfast commitment to serving the people of our great state.
