Nai Aupuni Aha Roll Call--How They Voted
By Andrew Walden @ 2:23 AM :: 7997 Views :: Akaka Bill, OHA

by Andrew Walden

On February 26, 2016 we reported: “According to a 2:48pm tweet from OIWI TV, the only media outlet allowed to cover the 'Aha, the vote of the 119 assembled cronies was ‘88-30-1 to approve a new Hawaiian constitution.’  According to a January 6, 2016 news release from Nai Aupuni, 154 people were supposedly participating in the Aha which means that 35 of them could not be bothered to attend today's final session.”

tweet from Nai Aupuni March 1 reports:  “Originally there were 152 to attend, 127 made it on voting day, 119 actually voted, 88 yes, 30 neh, 1 abstention...”  Inspite of the January 6 news release, the Nai Aupuni website still carries a "Revised" participant list with 152 names on it dated December 29, 2015.

Free Hawaii has released a roll call of the vote which shows the total to be slightly different:

  • 82 yes
  • 9 yes with reservations
  • 30 no
  • 1 no with reservations
  • 1 abstain
  • 23 absent

This would mean that 123 were in attendance and 23 were absent giving a total of 146 leaving eight of the 154 (or is it six of the 152?) unaccounted for.

Notably, Rep Kaniela Ing is listed among those voting ‘Yes.’  Ing told Civil Beat February 2 that he had asked the Aha to remove his name from their roll.  Will Ing receive a $4000 stipend?

Bumpy Kanahele, who resigned from the Aha February 15, is not included on the list.

Here is the list ….
