House Judiciary Passes HB 1902 Relating to Sex Trafficking
Hawaii Family Forum supported this bill (HB 1902) that adopts a victim-and-survivor centered approach to prosecution of sex trafficking crimes and bring Hawai‘i into line with the other forty-nine U.S. States that have adopted comprehensive anti-sex trafficking legislation. Sadly, Hawaii currently remains the only state in the nation lacking a comprehensive, victim-centered sex trafficking law. The vote in the House Judiciary on February 2, 2016 was as follows: 13 Ayes: Representative(s) Rhoads, San Buenaventura, Belatti, Creagan, Hashem, Kawakami, C. Lee, Morikawa, Nakashima, Takayama, Woodson, Thielen; Ayes with reservations: Representative(s) McDermott; Noes: none; and 1 Excused: Representative(s) Brower. The bill will now move the House Finance Committee.
