Challenged on the political contributions they received from criminal tax cheat Al Hee, Rep Tulsi Gabbard last week pledged to return $1000. Sen Mazie Hirono said she will donate Hee's $4,500 in contributions to charity.
That covers all of Hawaii's federal office holders who took contributions consisting of money Hee stole from Native Hawaiians.
Refusing to follow Hirono's example, six state-level candidates are still holding on to their ill-gotten gains. Three are in public office and two others hold significant non-elected positions.
Here is the list of the six who received contributions from Al Hee personally:
- $500 -- Sen Jill Tokuda
- $1000 -- Sen Gil Kahele
- $2000 -- Mayor Billy Kenoi
- $4000 -- Mufi Hannemann (President, HTLA)
- $1000 -- Justin Hughey (VP, HSTA)
- $1000 -- Dwight Takamine (Former Director, DLIR)
