Obama Cabinet Member Tours Oahu Small Business Community
SBA Administrator will join Governor Ige, Senators Hirono & Schatz, & Congressman Takai

WASHINGTON – Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet, the head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and member of President Obama’s Cabinet, will meet with various small business owners, community leaders and SBA partners as she tours the island. Throughout her two days on the island, she will be joined by Governor David Ige, Senators Mazie Hirono & Brian Schatz, and Congressman Mark Takai. (No Tulsi.)
On Wednesday morning, she will tour XLR8UH, which recently won the SBA’s Growth Accelerator competition, at the University of Hawaii- Manoa. Later that day she will participate in a roundtable at the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and then visit the Patsy Mink Center for Business and Leadership, home of an SBA Women’s Business Center, for a roundtable with women small business owners. Afterwards, she will participate in a business roundtable at the State Capitol building.
On Thursday, she will present Governor Ige with a STEP Grant, funding that will help small businesses in Hawaii engage in international trade. She will then participate in a forum to further discuss exports and trade. Later that day, the Administrator will address a Boots to Business class at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. She will then visit Manoa Chocolate in Kailua and tour Pelatron in Honolulu, before sitting down with Native Hawaiian entrepreneurs.
