Kaka‘ako enforcement continues next week

News Release from City and County of Honolulu September 25, 2015

Kaka‘ako -Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced that the City and County of Honolulu Department of Facility Maintenance will continue the phased enforcement action in Kaka‘ako Makai next week.

On Tuesday, September 29, beginning at approximately 11 a.m., Phase V enforcement of the sidewalk nuisance and stored property ordinances will take place on Ilalo Street, from Ohe Street to Koula Street (Mauka side only); Koula Street, from Ilalo Street to Ala Moana Boulevard (Ewa side only); and Ala Moana Boulevard, from Ohe Street to Koula Street (Makai side only).

On Thursday, October 1 beginning at approximately 11 a.m., Phase VI enforcement of the sidewalk nuisance and stored property ordinances will take place on Koula Street, from Ilalo Street to Ala Moana Boulevard (Diamond Head side only); Ilalo Street, from Koula Street to Ahui Street (Mauka side only); Ahui Street, from Ilalo Street to Ala Moana Boulevard (Ewa side only); and Ala Moana Boulevard, from Koula Street to Ahui Street (Makai side only).

On Friday, October 2 beginning at approximately 11 a.m., Phase VII enforcement of the sidewalk nuisance and stored property ordinances will take place on Ahui Street from Ala Moana Boulevard to Ward Avenue (Diamond Head side only); Ward Avenue from Ahui Street to Ala Moana Boulevard (Mauka side only); and Ala Moana Boulevard from Ahui Street to Ward Avenue (Makai side only).

The enforcement action will continue to take place in a phased approach on the remaining blocks of Kaka‘ako Makai in subsequent weeks. Notices have been posted and handed out throughout Kaka‘ako Makai in Chuukese, English, Marshallese, and Samoan.

Phase IV enforcement was completed Tuesday, September 22 at Coral Street, Cooke Street, Ilalo Street and Ala Moana Blvd and the following occurred:

  • 2 Summary Removal Notices (SNO) issued;
  • 2 bins of property stored;
  • 4.17 tons of trash removed;
  • 15 cubic yards of metals removed; and
  • 6 shopping carts removed.
